  • Apo Island: Saving a Coral Reef and its Fishery (Philippines, 7 minutes). A marine sanctuary at Apo Island set in motion community fisheries management that reversed a vicious cycle of destructive fishing and depletion of fish stocks, restoring the island’s coral reef ecosystem and rescuing a fishing village’s livelihood and wellbeing. Apo Island’s success has inspired 700 other fishing villages to establish marine sanctuaries.
  • New York City Community Gardens: Reversing Urban Decay (12 minutes). Community gardens in New York City reversed a vicious cycle of urban decay, crime-ridden empty lots, neglect, and population flight, while producing food, flowers, and wildlife habitat. These gardens nourished the bodies and souls of 800 neighborhoods, and inspired urban community gardening across the nation.
  • Reversing Tropical Deforestation with Agroforestry and Community Forests (Thailand, 14 minutes). Agroforestry farming and community-managed forests empowered impoverished villagers to optimize their resources, both natural and human, while showing how to reduce greenhouse gases by sequestering carbon from the atmosphere.
  • Water Warriors: Restoring Traditional Earthen Dams for Rainwater Harvesting and Groundwater Replenishment (India, 11 minutes). Revival of traditional rainwater harvesting dams recharged the aquifer, transforming a drought-ridden landscape and bringing a better life to 800 villages.
  • Escaping the Pesticide Trap: Non-Pesticide Management for Agricultural Pests (India, 16 minutes). Cotton farmers in Andhra Pradesh had descended into a seemingly hopeless abyss of escalating pesticide dependence and debt. "Non-Pesticide Management" was the tipping point that brought health and hope to the farmers in Punukula village. Thousands of villages have embarked on the same path.
